Abdullah Maki Musleh al-Rifai, also known as Abu Khadija, was killed by Iraqi security forces together with the US-led coalition fighting the terrorist group, according to al-Sudani. It is unclear when it happened.

Al-Sudani describes him as "one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world" in a post on X. Al-Rifai was allegedly responsible for the terrorist group's activities abroad.

Despite Iraq declaring in 2017 that IS had been defeated in the country, IS cells have remained active and carried out sporadic attacks against Iraqi police and military.

Two years later, IS also lost its foothold in Syria, but has to some extent continued to operate there as well.
