Natanz
The large complex in central Iran is the most important facility. Here, up to 60-percent uranium is enriched. The enrichment takes place at two locations, one of them underground. Natanz has been exposed to Israeli sabotage on several occasions before.
.
Fordo
The second enrichment facility is located near the holy city of Qom, southwest of Tehran. Here, 60-percent uranium is enriched deep inside a mountain, which makes the facility difficult to attack. Iran is said to have built Fordo in secret. In 2009, the USA warned that the facility's size and capacity are not compatible with a peaceful energy program.
.
Isfahan
On the outskirts of Iran's second-largest city, Isfahan, there is a large nuclear technical center that is said to handle and store uranium in several parts of the enrichment process. There are also reports of equipment that can be used to construct the core of an atomic bomb.
.
Khondab (formerly known as Arak)
Here, about 25 miles southwest of Tehran, parts of a research reactor for heavy water have been built. Heavy water reactors can produce plutonium, which, like enriched uranium, can be used to manufacture atomic bombs. The construction was halted in 2015, according to the then-current nuclear energy agreement between Iran and Western powers. Iran has, however, announced plans to start using the reactor again in 2026.
.
Bushehr
In the city of Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, there is Iran's only nuclear power plant in operation. Here, Russian fuel is used, which is then also sent back to Russia to reduce the risk of proliferation.
.
Tehran
In the capital, there are Iran's research facilities for nuclear energy. There is also a research reactor here.
