"The convicted person, Toomaj Salehi, who was sentenced to one year in prison for propaganda offenses against the Islamic Republic, was released from prison on December 1, 2024, after serving his sentence", announced Iran's judiciary in a statement.
Salehi was arrested in the fall of 2022 in connection with the widespread protests that broke out after a young woman died in the notorious morality police's custody, where she was taken because she was not considered to have worn her hijab correctly.
Due to Salehi's political writings, he was accused, among other things, of "spreading corruption in the world". State-controlled media pointed him out as a key figure in the nationwide protests.
For a period, he was released on bail, but he was arrested again after a short time.
Salehi was previously sentenced to death earlier this spring, a verdict that was overturned in June.
