Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei was reported to have been injured on February 28 - the first day of the war - and has not been seen in public since then, only communicating in writing.
Pezeshkian's statement in an interview on Iranian state television on Wednesday is a rare admission by the government of problems with the leader's public absence. However, the president praised Khamenei, saying that "his presence is a source of strength for us."
Exactly how and why communication is currently very difficult is not clear, but according to Pezeshkian, the Ayatollah has held "productive meetings."
Unfortunately, the current situation allows ill-intentioned people to present a different picture of him, the president says.
