The committee's chairman Jørgen Watne Frydnes says in a statement that he has received a call from Mohammadi where she expressed concern for her life and that she has received "direct and indirect threats of 'physical elimination by the regime's agents'".
Narges Mohammadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 for her struggle for women's and human rights in her home country. She has been brought to court and imprisoned on several occasions for her outspoken criticism of Iran's extensive use of the death penalty and the country's strict and mandatory dress code for women.
She has spent large parts of the last ten years in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran.
