During the six months that the war between Iran, the US and Israel has raged, the oil and gas bill for fossil-dependent countries has risen by $330 billion, or around SEK 3,100 billion, according to Finland-based CREA (Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air).
In general, the additional war bill resulting from higher oil and gas prices has hit less wealthy countries harder, relative to the size of the country's economy.
Countries that have invested in fossil-free energy sources have simultaneously saved $36 billion through reduced oil and gas dependence, according to CREA's calculations based on these countries' renewable investments since 2020.
