On Sunday, Trump dismissed Iran's response to the US peace proposal as "completely unacceptable."

On Monday, at a press conference at the White House, Trump responded in colorful terms to the question of whether the ceasefire was still in effect.

It's like when the doctor comes in and says that "the patient has about a one percent chance of surviving," he said, adding:

I would say the ceasefire is at its weakest right now, after reading the garbage they sent. I didn't even finish reading it.

Threats of new bombings

Trump will meet with his National Security Council on Monday to discuss next steps, including the possibility of resuming military strikes on Iran, three people with knowledge told Axios.

Iran's response on Sunday contained no immediate concessions on one of the key issues – the country's nuclear energy program and stockpiles of enriched uranium.

The US president has repeatedly threatened to resume military strikes, focusing on infrastructure and energy, if diplomacy fails.

In parallel, Iran's influential Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote in a post on X that the country is ready for new American attacks.

"Our armed forces are ready to give a well-deserved response to any aggression," he writes.

“We are prepared for all possibilities; they will be surprised.”

“Did not demand any concessions”

Earlier on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran is demanding "an end to the war in the region," the lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and the release of frozen assets.

"We did not demand any concessions. All we asked for was Iran's legitimate rights," he said of the Iranian response to the US's latest peace deal.

According to AP's diplomatic sources, Trump is frustrated that Iran is demanding war reparations, which usually accrue to the victor in a conflict and would be perceived as an admission of defeat.

For just over a month now, there has been a fragile ceasefire between the US, Israel, and Iran.
