Iran and Oman have been discussing the situation in the Strait of Hormuz for several weeks. On Friday, Tehran said a meeting with more countries in the region would take place on Monday.
“Iraq and other coastal states on the Persian Gulf” will participate, according to the country's Foreign Ministry.
"This meeting is intended to promote better understanding between the countries in the region and contribute to strengthening common regional security," a statement said.
Trade traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been severely restricted since the US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28 this year. Iran is blocking the strait, and the US Navy is blocking Iranian ports and ships in the Persian Gulf.
