They say: "We will not allow Iran to enrich uranium". It is completely unacceptable, says the ayatollah in connection with a memorial ceremony for Iran's former president Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash a year ago.
The statement comes after the US President Donald Trump recently expressed himself positively about the talks and said that a new nuclear energy agreement may be near.
The US and Iran have had several rounds of talks on nuclear energy in Oman since April 12, mostly through mediators but also through some direct contacts.
Ali Khamenei says he is skeptical about the countries being able to agree on a new deal.
Indirect negotiations were also held during Raisi's time, just like now. But they led nowhere – and we do not expect much from the current ones either. Who knows what will happen.
When the next round of talks will take place is unclear.
The previous agreement from 2015 collapsed in 2018, during Donald Trump's first term.
