Karimi, 47, is an outspoken critic of the Iranian regime and has been living in exile since 2022.
The Iranian judiciary's Mizan news agency said five properties allegedly linked to Karimi were seized, calling him a "traitor" who "supported the enemy in recent years."
The technically skilled Karimi scored 38 goals in 127 international appearances for Iran, was nicknamed the "Maradona of Asia" and has been described as one of the country’s most popular athletes ever.
