The US launched a new wave of attacks on Iran on Friday evening. Explosions have been heard - as earlier this week - in the cities of Bandar Abbas and Ahvaz, as well as on the island of Qeshm.

Iranian state media reports that at least three people have been killed and eight injured as a result of the attacks.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard says two tankers hit mines in the Strait of Hormuz late Friday, Swedish time. Details about the alleged incident are still scarce - and it is unclear what kind of damage the ships sustained - but Iran claims explosions and fires occurred. The Revolutionary Guard also says it stopped four ships from passing through the strait during the evening and night.

“To protect their assets and, above all, their lives, crews should not be misled and enter the minefield,” the Revolutionary Guard said in a statement.

Iran says it launched retaliatory attacks on Kuwait and Jordan overnight.
