Iran Says Two More Oil Tankers Hit Mines and Caught Fire in Strait of Hormuz

Two more oil tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz have hit mines and caught fire, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said.

Friday's announcement comes after Iranian officials said that at least five ships had been targeted in the same way on Thursday. The ships had turned off their transmitters and were attempting to take an "unauthorized route" out of the Persian Gulf into the open sea, according to the Revolutionary Guard.

Since the US and Israel launched a war against Iran in February, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for global trade, has been severely restricted. Iran has blocked the strait and attacked ships, while the US has imposed a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports.
