“There is no military solution, nor is there a solution based on new sanctions,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said at a gathering of foreign ambassadors.
An agreement between the US and Iran has not yet been reached, and talks on ending the conflict are considered to have almost reached a stalemate.
The two sides reached a memorandum of understanding in June that would serve as a framework for a permanent solution. But after repeated Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the US has resumed its military operations, and a solution has not materialised.
Araghchi adds that if the US “again chooses a military confrontation,” Iran’s response will be stronger than before.
