Iran has released the oil tanker that was seized by the country on Friday, the shipping company said.

The oil tanker Talara, which is flagged in the Marshall Islands, was en route from the United Arab Emirates to Singapore on Friday when the ship suddenly changed course towards Iranian territorial waters.

On Saturday, Iran confirmed that the ship had been seized and referred to a "judicial authority" that had ordered the cargo to be seized.

The shipping company confirmed on Wednesday that the oil tanker can resume its route and that the crew “is safe.” According to the company, there are no suspicions directed at the tanker, the crew or the company.

This is the first time since April 2024 that Iran has seized a ship.

Tehran has not commented on the incident.
