Iran Refuses Negotiations Amid Ongoing War with Israel

Iran will not negotiate with anyone as long as the war with Israel is ongoing. This is stated by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with the state television on Friday.

As long as the aggression does not cease, there will be no room for diplomacy or dialogue, says Araghchi.

Iran's Foreign Minister will meet European foreign ministers from France, the United Kingdom and Germany in Swiss Geneva on Friday to discuss the escalated situation. The EU's Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas will also participate.

And the European leaders still hope for a diplomatic solution to the conflict. They want to initiate further negotiations.

"Diplomatic solution"

French President Emmanuel Macron tells reporters on Friday that he and other leaders are offering Iran a "diplomatic solution" to the conflict, but it requires Iran to come to the negotiating table. And his European colleagues are on the same line:

It's time to put an end to the serious events in the Middle East and avoid a regional escalation, says the United Kingdom's Foreign Minister David Lammy.

In an interview with the German public service channel MDR, Germany's Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says that "every conversation is meaningful" to try to prevent further escalation of the conflict.

Attack or not?

The United States and Iran have negotiated during the spring on a new agreement that will limit Iran's nuclear program. The American President Donald Trump demands that Iran should not have any nuclear energy program at all and has threatened to launch a military attack if Iran does not show itself to be compliant.

On Thursday, Trump stated that he will "within two weeks" make a decision on whether the United States will attack Iran or not.

John Sawers, former head of the British intelligence service MI6, says that Trump had preferred that Israel had refrained from starting a war with Iran, reports Politico.

Just a week ago, he appealed to Israel to give him more time for negotiations, but Netanyahu dismissed it, and Trump has basically fallen in line behind Israel's stance, says Sawers.
