On the eleventh day of an internet shutdown, access is "gradually" returning to normal, according to a senior Iranian official.

Earlier in January, Iran imposed a nationwide communications blackout in connection with widespread anti-government protests.

"The internet will gradually return to normal operation this week," Hossein Afshin, one of Iran's vice presidents, said on state television on Monday.

On Sunday, limited internet access was temporarily restored for some foreign websites, such as Google, but on Monday it was still impossible to open links from search results.
