A man who was arrested in Iran as an Israeli spy has been executed, according to information from Iranian authorities.
Pedram Madani was arrested in Tehran in 2020 and was later sentenced to death, accused of spying on behalf of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.
Iranian exile organizations had warned in recent days that an execution was imminent, as Madani had been moved from a high-security prison to another. The news that the death penalty has been executed is provided through the Iranian judiciary's own news agency Mizan.
More than 100 people have been executed in the Islamic Republic so far this year, according to various monitors. It is accused of arbitrarily sentencing dissidents for crimes such as espionage and religiously charged "spreading corruption on earth".
