Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has been blocked by Iran to varying degrees since the outbreak of war in February.
Now the newly formed body claims that its area of control includes waters south of Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates.
Anwar Gargash, advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates, dismisses Iran's claims.
"Attempts to control the Strait of Hormuz or encroach on the maritime sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates are nothing more than wishful thinking," he writes on X.
