"Until further notice, it is prohibited for national teams and clubs to stay in countries that are considered hostile and that cannot guarantee the safety of Iranian athletes," the country's sports ministry wrote in a statement.
The announcement comes ahead of Iranian club Tractor's planned meeting with Emirati side Shabab Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
In just a few months, the World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The question of whether Iran, which has qualified for the tournament, will be able or willing to participate has been hanging in the air ever since the war began a month ago.
