Even the upcoming talks with the USA will be held "indirectly" and with Omani mediation, according to Iran's Foreign Ministry the day after the intense nuclear energy meeting with the USA.

Oman will remain a mediator, but we are discussing the location for future negotiations, says the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei in an interview with state-owned Iranian TV.

Baqaei adds that the talks will only focus on "the nuclear issue and lifting of sanctions".

Saturday's talks, which were the first in many years, took place in Oman's capital Muscat. The US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi sat in different rooms and talked via Omani mediators.

It will not be easy and it will require a will from both sides, said Araghchi after Saturday's talks.

The next round of talks will take place on April 19.
