The International Olympic Committee (IOC) directs sharp criticism towards the Indonesian government after Israeli gymnasts were denied visas to participate in the World Championship in artistic gymnastics in the country.

IOC writes in a statement that they are concerned about the decision of the Indonesian authorities.

"All qualified athletes, teams and officials must be able to participate in international competitions and events without any form of discrimination", they write, among other things.

Israel appealed the decision to ban them to the sports arbitration court Cas but was rejected this week.

The governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has said that the arrival of the Israelis would create deep emotional unrest among the majority of Indonesians.
