"I have decided to close the preliminary investigation because it is not possible to prove that the person suspected has committed the crime," says Public Prosecutor Emma Häggström in a press release.

In December, a woman in her 60s was arrested and detained on reasonable suspicion of poisoning four people at work in October and November. She was released a week later after the district court did not consider the evidence sufficient to detain her. In February, she was dismissed from her job.

"We have not had any insight into the investigation, but it is clear there has been an expectation that this would lead to a prosecution, since we suspected a crime. It is still our employees who have been affected," says Viktor Ekström, head of security at the Academic Hospital, to Upsala Nya Tidning.

He would not comment on why the woman was fired.
