The message comes four months after the mass shooting where ten people were killed and six injured – one of the worst acts of violence in Sweden in modern times. Since the only suspected perpetrator is dead, it will not be possible to lead to prosecution.
It has been important for us to be able to give answers to who, why, and how, and to be as transparent as possible since there is no preliminary investigation to protect, says Kristoffer Zickbauer.
In May, the police presented their conclusions from the investigation, which shows that the perpetrator Rickard Andersson's frustration after long-term setbacks with his livelihood led to him wanting to take his life. However, it has not been possible to get any clarity on how long the act had been planned.
It seems as if the thoughts around it have intensified during the autumn of 2024 when he retrieves a guitar case. We see this as a clear indication, and then we have text documents from his computer with copied links to videos on YouTube dealing with weapon maintenance, says Kristoffer Zickbauer.
Been to school
The police believe they have mapped out Rickard Andersson's movements on the actual day as far as possible. There is still a time gap in the sequence from when the perpetrator arrived by bus at Campus Risbergska and until the alarm about the first shots came in to the police.
We have 15 witness observations of a person who could be the suspected perpetrator during this time. We have reviewed surveillance cameras both around the school, at his home address, and on all bus lines to and from the school, and we do not believe that he has left the area, says Kristoffer Zickbauer.
Money for drugs
In the investigation, it has also emerged that the perpetrator was drug-intoxicated when the mass shooting was carried out. Drugs that were bought with cryptocurrency. Between 2019 and 2021, he made 23 transactions against a site that exclusively sells narcotics.
We see that he changed his approach and after 2021, he made the purchases via an exchange, so we can in practice see where the money went, says the investigation leader Kristoffer Zickbauer and adds:
But according to the initial information that we have come across, there was a capital on the suspect's accounts, an economy to move around with.
To what extent have the perpetrator's relatives participated in the investigation?
We have had contact with them and still do, but otherwise, I do not want to talk about his or others' relatives in respect for them, says Kristoffer Zickbauer.
