The couple were arrested in a dawn operation on October 17. They were both remanded in custody until December 13, 2023, when they were released. The charges against the man were dropped in September 2024.
The investigation against the woman has now also been closed because a crime cannot be proven, says Chief Prosecutor Per Lindqvist in a press release:
"The reason is that it is not possible to question the necessary witnesses on all counts. The witnesses are prevented from being questioned about certain information due to confidentiality."
Among other things, considerations from the woman's former employer, FRA, formed the basis for the decision to close the investigation, according to the prosecutor.
"In my opinion, the considerations from the suspect's former employer are based on reasonable positions where Sweden's security is put first," says Lindqvist.
Expressen reported in January 2024 that the woman had been bought out by FRA after her security clearance had been revoked due to the criminal suspicions.
