The invasive leaf flatworm has been detected for the first time in Dalarna, reports Borlänge Tidning.
A person who purchased plants at a store in Borlänge contacted the County Administrative Board, which confirmed that it was the leaf flatworm (Obama nungara).
It's serious, but we've been expecting it – several other counties have reported findings. But it's clear that it's tough that it has also come here now, says Frida Kaiskog, environmental administrator at the County Administrative Board of Dalarna, to the newspaper.
The leaf flatworm is an aggressive predator that, among other things, eats earthworms and can lead to reduced plant vitality and poorer harvests if it spreads.
It does not survive being frozen, but has still managed to find protected hiding places.
