The course has been mandatory for both students and supervisors since 2006. It is now being discontinued because it “has not had the intended effect of improving the planning, structure and content of practice driving,” the Riksdag writes.
The government's justification for the change in law was that the course requirement had been a barrier to private practice driving and had limited the ability to practice easily with several different instructors.
The law comes into force on August 1 of this year.
