A foreign driver who, at the end of April, drove a heavy truck severely intoxicated in Piteå has been sentenced to three months' imprisonment.
The man drove several times against red lights and also in oncoming traffic lanes and on a pedestrian and cycle path, writes Piteå-Tidningen. When he was finally stopped by the police, an alcohol test showed that he had 2.36 per mille in his blood.
The driver, who has confessed to the crime, says that he had consumed alcohol at the same time as he took medication. He remembers nothing of the hazardous journey and is said to have regained consciousness only the day after.
The man, who due to the risk of flight has been detained since he was arrested, is convicted by the district court for aggravated drunk driving.
