It is about thirty access bans for guardians to children at the municipal elementary schools. The bans have increased in recent years, from one issued ban in 2021 to eleven in 2024. The increase can be linked to several decisions from the Parliamentary Ombudsman that give principals the right to deny parents access.

It is not the first thing we do, then we need to have tried a lot of other things before it has gone that far, but in the end it can absolutely be necessary, says Anders Wallin, principal in Gothenburg.

The access ban can be issued for a limited time against guardians who repeatedly behave inappropriately towards school staff or threaten the staff.
