Noname has, according to a press release from the police, been behind "several of the extensive overload attacks that were directed against Swedish authorities' and banks' websites" during 2023 and 2024. Some of the affected authorities were the Riksdag, the Defence Forces and the Tax Authority.
The group had initially focused on Ukrainian targets, but has later shifted focus to countries that also support Ukraine in the war against Russia, according to the police. The latest known attack is said to have been directed against the NATO summit in The Hague in June.
Sweden had, according to the police, "a central role" in both the investigation and the operation, which began on Monday. Other involved countries were Germany, the Netherlands, the USA and Spain.
"By striking out several C2 servers and a substantial part of their digital infrastructure, we have caused significant damage and severely limited their ability to strike against authorities and the financial sector in the near future", says Steffen Oxenvad, head of complex cybercrime at the police's national operational division, Noa, in a comment.
Most likely, the group will however rebuild its operations again, according to Oxenvad.
