The government and the Swedish Transport Administration recently announced that all deferred maintenance on the railway would be addressed by 2050. But that is not true, reports Altinget which refers to the Swedish Transport Administration's own maintenance report. A majority will be addressed, but not all.
"On tracks with less traffic, it can be more cost-effective to ensure operational reliability through more frequent maintenance instead of complete renewal", writes Roberto Maiorana, Director-General of the Swedish Transport Administration in a written comment to Altinget.
Altinget has contacted Minister for Infrastructure Andreas Carlson (The Christian Democrats), who was involved in presenting the national infrastructure plan. He refers to the Swedish Transport Administration.
