In conjunction with the announcement that the key interest rate will remain unchanged, the Fed members' forecast for future interest rates was released, which pointed to the possibility that the interest rate may be raised this year.
That gave Wall Street a scare. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 1.0 percent, the broad S&P 500 index fell 1.2 percent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 1.3 percent.
Among the biggest losers were several of the largest technology companies, such as Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet.
At the same time, the US dollar rose approximately 1 percent against the euro.
