Right before the final whistle and after the final whistle, a proper fight broke out between Inter's Denzel Dumfries and River Plate's Marcos Acuña.

The fight was close to getting completely out of hand, at the same time as supporters threw mugs and flags from the stands. Inter's coach Christian Chivu was forced to intervene to calm down Acuña, who had run away from Dumfries while the two exchanged harsh words on the way to the locker room.

Dumfries went straight down into the player tunnel, while players and leaders gathered around Acuña, who ended up on the ground. The atmosphere between the teams was very heated and emotionally charged.

The Italians won the match 2–0 after goals by Francesco Pio Esposito and Alessandro Bastoni.

Meanwhile, Mexican Monterrey defeated Japanese Urawa Reds 4–0. This means that the Mexicans climbed past River Plate, who miss the playoffs, in the table in group E.

Both Inter and Monterrey are thus advancing to the round of 16. They will meet Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16, respectively.
