Leading indexes on Wall Street moved in different directions on Friday. Chipmaker Intel was the biggest loser.

The broad S&P 500 index closed unchanged, the Nasdaq's technology-heavy composite index rose 0.3 percent, and the Dow Jones industrial average fell 0.6 percent.

Intel's stock plunged 17 percent. The company reported a higher-than-expected profit for the last quarter on Thursday, but its revenue forecast for the first months of the year fell short of expectations.

The price of gold continued to rise, approaching a record high of $5,000 per ounce (31.1 grams). It is a sign that many investors are looking for safe-haven assets in times of unrest. The price of gold has risen about 15 percent this year alone.

Over the past week, the S&P 500 fell 0.4 percent, while the Nasdaq lost 0.1 percent, and the Dow Jones fell 0.5 percent.
