Risk of fires and water damage makes it increasingly difficult to insure climate-smart houses in wood. Several large insurance companies are hesitant, writes Svenska Dagbladet.
The fact that they have become more restrictive is partly due to the fact that fires can spread to the wooden frames via cavities between the modules in multi-storey houses.
Not being able to have property insurance is of course very serious. It also affects the banks' lending to the property owner and the residents. The banks have property insurance as a condition for their lending, says insurance broker Björn Mild at the company Säkra to SvD.
An alternative is for several different insurance providers to share the risks together – something that is common internationally.
