"When the wind is at its worst, things like tile roofs, weatherboards and metal roofs can blow off houses, and trees can be broken by the wind," said Erik Arvidsson, damage prevention specialist at Folksam, in a press release.
Before the storm, loose items such as outdoor furniture, umbrellas and tarpaulins should be secured or brought inside. Check where your car is parked and avoid areas at risk from falling trees. Retract awnings and consider lowering the flagpole to the ground, especially if it is old.
Also, prepare for power outages with food, water, a flashlight and alternative heat sources. It is best to avoid going outdoors, Folksam advises.
