Analysts expected inflation in France to average 2.9 percent in May, according to Bloomberg.
In Spain, inflation according to the EU-harmonized measure rose to 3.6 percent, up from 3.5 percent. This was in line with expectations.
For Germany, inflation in May was 2.7 percent, slightly below expectations because of lower energy prices.
Preliminary Swedish inflation figures for May will be published on Thursday, June 4.
