Last virus season, all newborns in Sweden were offered protective antibodies against RSV. Approximately 87 percent of parents accepted the offer.
A preliminary analysis from the Public Health Agency of Sweden shows that the number of children under six months who needed hospital care for RSV decreased by 82 percent compared with the previous season. Only seven children needed intensive care, compared with 45 the previous year.
From September 10, all newborn children in Sweden will once again be offered protective antibodies against RSV.
