The BBC has tracked the private jet believed to have been used by Infantino during the tournament. The private plane is said to have flown at least 20,122 kilometres, over 27 trips between different cities in North and Central America during the group stage.

According to the BBC, Infantino was present at 24 matches during the group stage. On several occasions, he was seen at stadiums in different cities on the same day.

In total, the FIFA president is said to have spent more than 66 hours in the air during the trips.

FIFA has defended the travel, saying the organisation's executives choose flights "based on what is most efficient and cost-effective".
