The Swedish Transport Workers' Union's notice of industrial action is withdrawn and no strike will break out. However, the strike notice from the Swedish Dockworkers' Union remains.
Erik Helgeson says that the negotiations are broken off and that the union will go on strike in "all ports where we have members" from 12 to 18 on Wednesday, and that there will be spot strikes in twelve member companies and the employers' organization Swedish Ports until Monday.
Then there will be a break and then new spot strikes from Friday next week, says Helgeson.
"The mediators have paused"
There is no date for when the negotiations with the employers will resume.
The mediators have paused. We'll see, I find it hard to imagine that it will be tomorrow, at any rate, says Helgeson.
The Transport union had previously threatened industrial action in the form of blockades and strikes, among other things, due to "the employers' unwillingness to meet the demand against the misuse of temporary staff" – but now a solution has been reached with strengthened rules for temporary staff.
Stable conditions
The agreement will create security, long-term stability, and better conditions for our members in the ports", says Tommy Wreeth, chairman of the Transport union, in a press release.
Johan Grauers, chief negotiator for Swedish Ports, says that the country's ports play a crucial role for Sweden's import and export.
"Now we have signed an agreement that provides stable conditions for the ports and for the Swedish transport system", he says.
The agreement period is two years.
