The bus was on its way from Medan in northern Sumatra to the capital Jakarta when the driver suddenly lost control of it on the downhill slopes. Passengers testify that the brakes stopped working, which led to a crash where the bus landed on its side. The information is confirmed by the police.
At least twelve people, including two children, died in the accident. Three people were injured, 13 of them seriously, one of them being the bus driver. All of them were taken to nearby hospitals.
