Protesters marched towards the election authority's headquarters in the city centre, chanting slogans. Roads were then blocked and several protesters were arrested. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was among those arrested, but he was released a short time later.
The election authority is accused of manipulating voter lists to benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party.
The election authority and the government deny any wrongdoing and call the accusation “completely misleading.”
Tuesday's demonstration was one of many in India recently. The protests began with the student movement “Cockroach People's Party” holding mass demonstrations across the country, and more protests followed.
