When Molly Kochan was struck by incurable cancer and found out she had limited time left to live, she made her decision. She left her husband to experience all the sex she never had.

What she went through is described by her and best friend Nikki Boyer in the podcast "Dying for sex" – which has now become a TV series with the same name.

My hope is that the audience will feel that friendship can continue even if one of the people now exists in another dimension, says Jenny Slate, who plays Nikki, to TT.

In Sweden, she is best known as the best friend in the film adaptation of "It ends with us". In the USA, she is known as a comedian, not least on the stand-up scene. Her comedic side got a lot of use during the recording of "Dying for sex", which despite the tragedy is unexpectedly funny and often makes the viewer burst out laughing.

The combination is definitely unique. Sex and cancer and life and death can be funny if it's written in the right way and if it's then portrayed with sensitivity. I've never read a script like this before, you never know what's going to happen.

"Has gallows humor"

Molly is played by Michelle Williams, whose role interpretation has already been praised by TV critics in advance.

Both women have gallows humor, they are also silly and immature. They are full of energy, at the same time as they know that for one of them, this adventure has an end, says Jenny Slate.

She had great help from meeting the real Nikki, who visited the recording at several occasions.

I could ask her about the relationship to Molly. I also wanted to hear how she stood towards Nikki's way of getting explosively angry in the series. She wants justice immediately, she explodes. When I get angry, I'm different. I want to reason, be more respectful.

Jokes about her life

Jenny Slate's humor on the stand-up scene differs from the one in the series. As a stand-up comedian, she jokes about her own life, about things that are uncomfortable for herself.

I don't feel entirely comfortable with shameless jokes. So this was a bit of a challenge. I gave myself permission to handle the dark material, and it was like letting in fresh air. It was exciting to try it out.
