The number of hate crimes reported to the police at school has increased in recent years, according to statistics from Brå. Nazi graffiti or Nazi salutes were the most common form.

In total, Brå categorized hate crime motives in 2,731 reports in 2024. For 2022, the figure was 2,695. In just over half of the reports, there were xenophobic or racist motives.

"More than half of the antisemitic hate crimes were not directed at any physical person but could, for example, involve antisemitic graffiti on a building or comments on social media," says Rahwa Medhane, investigator at Brå, in a press release.

In school settings, registrations for 2024 increased to 511, from 391 registrations in 2022.
