”We have uncovered several cases this year where foreign female couriers have attempted to smuggle in heroin and cocaine in a similar manner. They arrive by long-distance buses or trains to our border crossings in Skåne. The narcotics are in so-called swallow capsules that in turn have been packed together and wrapped in stockings that have been placed in their luggage”, says Ingrid Lamberth at the Customs Authority's criminal division in a press release.
The woman who is now being prosecuted was arrested in April after a narcotics dog had marked her on board a train from Denmark. In her luggage, she had more than 15 kilos of heroin and 4.5 kilos of cocaine.
The Customs Authority's investigation has shown that she has made an additional 27 trips to Sweden since 2022. Through chats on her mobile phone, it has been possible to see how she has been in constant contact with people abroad who have directed her trips, according to Lamberth.
