For 2023, the income difference between the sexes landed at 22 percent. This is a decrease of 1.3 percentage points from the previous year. The smallest differences are among those who are post-secondary educated.
"However, it is striking that high school-educated men, and sometimes also pre-secondary educated men, on average have higher lifetime incomes than post-secondary educated women have", says the Mediation Institute's director-general Irene Wennemo in a press release.
She notes that the average difference has varied somewhat in recent years but that the trend has been towards reduced differences.
"Even if at a slow pace", she adds.
