The new record is 19.72 meters. Five times during the college competition in Lincoln she hit the ball further than her latest Swedish record from last spring of 19.31. In the fourth round it was 19.72.
"I'm still in heavy training so we haven't prepared my body at all to compete, but then I got into a long training session last week and then I thought: 'why not take the opportunity to compete a little, take it as a training session?' And it turned out to be a very good training session!", says Axelina Johansson to the Swedish Athletics Federation's website.
"I knew I could push far, but 19.72, I didn't expect that."
The Swedish indoor record in the shot put is now longer than Fanny Roo's outdoor record of 19.66.
The competition was the season premiere for Axelina Johansson, who is in her final year of college in Nebraska.
