Sweden's export to the USA could decrease by about 9 percent if planned additional tariffs are implemented, writes the National Board of Trade in an analysis. According to the authority, imports from the USA would in turn fall by 17 percent. The steel and automotive industries are believed to be affected extra hard.
"The analysis shows that Sweden's total trade is affected to a limited extent, but that trade with the USA falls sharply. The effects can be long-term and affect both companies and consumers negatively", says Lovi Nordgren, investigator at the National Board of Trade, in a press release.
In the forecast, the National Board of Trade has included the tariffs introduced since the end of 2024. They have also included the effect of the EU's proposed countermeasures. The simulation shows how the situation may look like in about five years, when the economy has had time to adapt.
