The winning image shows a family being forcibly separated by the U.S. immigration agency ICE.
"What Guzy documents here is not an isolated moment of grief, but rather evidence and documentation of a government policy that was systematically applied to people who followed the rules they were given," the jury writes in a press release.
Carol Guzy, now a freelance photographer with Zuma Press, has extensive experience covering humanitarian disasters and conflicts around the world. She has previously won awards for her work in Kosovo, Haiti and Colombia.
