According to SVT Uppsala, Ikea received the result of an analysis regarding the construction of the department store on Tuesday. A building defect was found, and it was decided to close the department store.

On Wednesday, customers who had not received the message were turned away at the entrance. And even on Thursday, the department store remains closed, reports UNT.

I still don't know what kind of defect it is, it needs to be further analyzed. Until we know if this is a deviation that is dangerous or not, the department store will remain closed, says department store manager Jessica Öhlund to SVT.

The employees were informed of the decision on Tuesday evening.

We need to do a more comprehensive analysis of this. All employees are staying home with pay, and in the meantime, we are looking at solutions for them, says press chief Fredrik Norrlid to SVT News Uppsala.

It is the first time ever that an Ikea department store in Sweden closes during the day, according to both Norrlid and Öhlund.

The department store in the Boländerna district was inaugurated in 2009 and has a different building construction than other Ikea department stores in Sweden. According to Fredrik Norrlid, personnel and customers who have been in the department store have not been exposed to any danger.
