Anisimova took home the quarter with 6–4, 6–3. A revenge for the American who was defeated with 6–0, 6–0 the last time she met Swiatek in the final of Wimbledon in July this year.
To come back from Wimbledon in that way is really special for me, says Anisimova.
I feel that I worked so hard to turn it around after that. I knew I would need to dig really deep. It was such a tough match, really a struggle for me, she continues.
The 24-year-old Anisimova will play against the two-time former US Open champion Naomi Osaka, Japan.
Osaka won her quarterfinal against the Czech Karolina Muchova in, 6–4, 7–6, but it required a tiebreak in the second set (7–3) before the match was decided.
It was an incredibly difficult match, says Osaka afterwards.
She is one of the best players in the world. Every time we meet it is incredibly difficult, she continues.
